10-Meter Air Pistol Shooting

10-meter air pistol shooting, a sport that requires both mental and physical acuity. The 10-meter air pistol competition offers a special combination of skill, focus, and technique, regardless of your level of experience.

In the Olympic shooting sport known as 10-meter Air Pistol, competitors use a specially made air-powered pistol to aim a succession of bullseyes at a target that is 10 meters distant. The objective of the competition, which is open to both men and women, is to shoot the greatest score in individual matches.

The target has ten concentric scoring rings in the middle of a bullseye. The score increases with the shot's proximity to the centre. To allow for precise aim and focus, the shooter must fire a sequence of 60 bullets in a predetermined amount of time, frequently with a predetermined number of minutes each shot.

Key Rules and Scoring System

  • Distance: The target is placed exactly 10 meters from the shooter.
  • Pistol Specifications: Only air-powered pistols, typically with a caliber of .177 (4.5mm), are used.
  • Shooting Time: Each competitor is given a total of 75 minutes to shoot 60 shots. The shooter has a limited amount of time (usually 1 to 1.5 minutes per shot) to focus, aim, and fire each round.
  • Scoring: The target has a total of 10 rings, with the bullseye being the most valuable, worth 10 points. Scores are measured with high precision and can include decimal points.
  • Final Round: In some competitions, after the initial 60 shots, the top shooters may enter a final round where only the top 8 shooters remain and are ranked based on their final performance.
